Vesna Stanković

Born in Belgrade, violinist Vesna Stanković has been concertmaster of the Volksoper Vienna since 2003. Since 2011, she has also held a professorship for violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The Serbian studied violin with Szymon Goldberg in the USA (Curtis Institute of Music and Juilliard School). She has already received many honors in the former Yugoslavia and in the USA. In 1986, she was a finalist in the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Vesna Stanković was a leading member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe for fifteen years, where she worked with conductors and soloists such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Claudio Abbado, Carlo Maria Giulini, Sir Georg Solti, Gidon Kremer, András Schiff, Murray Perahia and others. She can also be heard regularly as a soloist and chamber musician at major concert cycles and festivals. She has performed as a soloist with many orchestras in the USA, in the former Yugoslavia and in Vienna. She has given solo recitals in Japan, where she was artistic director of the Szymon Goldberg Memorial Chamber Music Seminar in Toyama. She has also repeatedly taken part in chamber music festivals in Nuremberg and Feistritz (Hagen Open) and in chamber music cycles at the Vienna Konzerthaus, where she made her debut in 1995. Vesna Stanković plays a violin by Jacobus Stainer from 1671, which was made available to her by the Austrian National Bank.
