Tara Erraught
Tara Erraught is one of the leading international singers whose versatile repertoire ranges from Baroque to Mozart, the Bel Canto repertoire, Romanticism and contemporary music. Tara Erraught's 2022/23 season begins with Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at the Vienna State Opera under the baton of Philippe Jordan. She then makes a guest appearance as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Berlin State Opera. At the Hamburg State Opera she will make two important role debuts: First Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) followed by Alice Ford (Falstaff). She will return to the Bavarian State Opera as the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos). Under the direction of Eun Sun Kim, the artist will appear in Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Duisburg. Highlights of the past season were her role debut of the title role in Iphigénie en Tauride at the Opéra de Paris, where she was also acclaimed as Cendrillon, and her role debut as Maria Stuarda at the Irish National Opera. She attracted particular attention as Hansel in Hansel and Gretel at the Bavarian State Opera, Rosina at the Berlin State Opera and the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Hamburg State Opera. In addition, Tara Erraught has given recitals at the Wigmore Hall London, at the Schubertiade, in Munich, Barcelona, Oxford and Eppan. Concert engagements have taken her to the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Herbert Blomstedt, to the Minnesota Orchestra under Simone Young, to the Munich Radio Orchestra under Alexander Soddy with a Mozart Gala, and to the Wexford Festival with Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle. Her international concert activities have taken her to Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver, Savannah, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Dublin, Lyon and Tokyo. With the Philadelphia Orchestra she sang Mozart's Requiem under Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
Important engagements in recent seasons include Nicklausse in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann and Hansel in Hansel and Gretel at the Metropolitan Opera New York, Stéphano in Romeo et Juliette at the Liceu Barcelona, Angelina in Cenerentola at the Munich Opera Festival and Annius in Mozart's Clemenza di Tito alongside Joyce DiDonato and Rolando Villazón under Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. At the Bavarian State Opera, her roles have included Susanna (Nozze di Figaro), Hansel, Despina, Orlofsky, Sesto, Romeo, as Kathleen Scott in the successful world premiere of Srnka's opera South Pole, and she made her role debut as the Composer in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos. As Angelina she made her acclaimed US debut at Washington National Opera, made guest appearances as Rosina and Angelina at Hamburg State Opera, sang the world premiere of Iain Bell's A Harlot's Progress at Theater an der Wien and made her role debut as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier at the Glyndebourne Festival and BBC Proms. At the Vienna State Opera she was successful not only as Rosina but also as Angelina in the new production of La Cenerentola, for which she was hailed as the »New Belcanto Queen« by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. At the 2016 Salzburg Festival she made her debut as Siebel in Gounod's Faust. Her Octavian in Richard Strauss' Rosenkavalier has been released on DVD by Opus Arte.
Born in Dundalk, Ireland, Tara Erraught graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. From 2008 she was a member of the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera, and from 2010 to 2018 she was part of the ensemble. Tara Erraught regularly works with Brigitte Fassbaender on her song and opera repertoire.
