Mark Wigglesworth has a longstanding collaboration with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, and with the English National Opera. Further engagements have taken him to venues such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Bavarian State Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, and the Teatro Real in Madrid. In 2017, he received the Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Opera.’ He collaborates with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, London Symphony, Boston Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and Tokyo Symphony. His recordings include a critically acclaimed cycle of Shostakovich’s symphonies, Mahler’s 6th and 10th symphonies, Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes, and Johannes Brahms' piano concertos. He has written for The Guardian and The Independent, created a six-part television series for the BBC (Everything to Play For), and his book The Silent Musician: Why Conducting Matters has been translated into Spanish and Chinese. In September 2024, he became Chief Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and in 2025, he will assume the position of Chief Conductor at the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
