2022/23 engagements include Maria Bengtsson return to the Royal Opera House in London as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Frankfurt Opera as Countess Madeleine in Capriccio, Staatsoper Hamburg as Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Palais Garnier in Paris as Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes and to the Internationale Maifestspiele in Wiesbaden as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier. Her debuts will be at the Nationale Opera in Amsterdam as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, as Witwe in Elias with the Bayerische Symfonieorchester in Munich, with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra singing Vier letzte Lieder and a recital at the Gothenburg Opera. Last season 2021/22 she sang Countess Almaviva at the Wiener Staatsoper and at Palais Garnier in Paris, both Marschallin in Der Rosenkavlier and Countess Madeleine at the Wiener Staatsoper and Ellen Orford at the Royal Opera House in London. Her most important roles are currently Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro), Pamina (Magic Flute), Ilia (Idomeneo), Rusalka, Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes), Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites) and the Strauss parts Daphne, Marschallin (Rosenkavalier), Arabella and Capriccio Countess Madeleine. As a concert and Lieder singer the Swedish soprano has made guest performances at festivals and in concert halls such as the Berliner Festspiele, the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna, the Gewandhaus Leipzig,the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Teatro Nacional Sao Carlo in Lisbon, at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt and Oper Frankfurt. In addition to that she has performed in concerts with the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo under the baton of Simone Young with Beethoven’s Symphony No.9, with the Beethoven Orchester Bonn with Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder at the Konzerthaus Berlin, with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Kirill Petreko in Tel Aviv as well as with the Hamburger Philharmoniker under Bertrand de Billy. Celebrating the inauguration of Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, Ms. Bengtsson was invited to perform Mendelssohn´s Lobgesang under the baton of Thomas Hengelbrock. Ms. Bengtsson studied at the University of Music in Freiburg. From 2000 until 2002, she was an ensemble member of the Volksoper Wien and from 2002 to 2007 of the Komische Oper Berlin where she sang the leading parts in many of Kirill Petrenko’s most important productions. Since 2007, Maria Bengtsson has been active as a freelance artist. She has appeared as a guest at the Opéra de Paris, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Deutsche Opera in Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the State Opera in Hamburg,  the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Festival in Salzburg and Aix en Provence and at Oper Frankfurt, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Oper Köln, Opéra National de Lyon, Teatro la Fenice, Vlaamse Opera and the Theater an der Wien.
