Levy Sekgapane
Levy Sekgapane hails from Kroonstad, South Africa, and became a member of the Young Ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden in 2015. In his burgeoning career, he has already developed two signature roles: Count Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), which he has performed in a new production in Glyndebourne, at the Opéra national de Paris, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Opéra national de Bordeaux; and Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), with appearances at the Bavarian State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, and the Los Angeles Opera.
He recently made noteworthy house debuts in these roles: Count Almaviva at the Vienna State Opera, followed by Don Ramiro at the Zurich Opera House. For his role debut as Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles), he returned to Cape Town Opera, performed Ernesto (Don Pasquale) and Count Almaviva at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and debuted as Arturo (I puritani) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
Upcoming engagements include Count Almaviva at the Paris Opéra, Lindoro (L'italiana in Algeri) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Mitridate in Lausanne, and Mozart’s Requiem at the Liceu in Barcelona.
