Godwin Merano

Godwin Merano was born in Toronto and raised in the Philippines until he became six years old. He received his training as a dancer at Canada’s National Ballet School from 2009 to 2015 and at the Dutch National Ballet Academy Amsterdam from 2015 to 2016. In 2015 he won the Peter Dwyer Award and the Jeffrey Kirk Award, followed in 2016 by the 1st Prize of the CCP National Ballet Competition Manila. From 2016 to 2019 Godwin Merano was a member of the Ballet Manila and danced well known parts in the company’s large repertoire including Rothbart in »Swan Lake«, Escamillo in »Carmen« and Blue Bird in »Sleeping Beauty«. He was also part of »Bloom« by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and »Come in« by Aszure Barton. In 2019 he was a guest in David McVicar’s »Rusalka« production of the Canadian Opera Company. Since the 2020/21 season Godwin Merano has been a member of the Corps the ballet of Vienna State Ballet. His Viennese repertoire includes roles in Frederick Ashton's »La Fille mal gardée«, George Balanchine's »Jewels« and »Symphony in C«, John Cranko's »Onegin«, Andrey Kaydanovskiy's world premiere of »lux umbra«, Jerome Robbins' »Glass Pieces« and »The Concert«, Elena Tchernichova's »Giselle«, Nureyev's »Don Quixote«, Pierre Lacotte’s »Coppélia«, John Neumeierʼs »Lady of the Camellias« as well as Martin Schläpfer's world premieres of »4«, »Symphonie Nr. 15«, »In Sonne verwandelt«, »Die Jahreszeiten« and »The Sleeping Beauty« (Saphir Variation).
