Andrè Schuen
The baritone Andrè Schuen, originally from the Ladin-speaking region of La Val in South Tyrol, Italy, studied voice, art song, and oratorio with Wolfgang Holzmair at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. From 2010 to 2014, he was a member of the Opera Graz ensemble. At the Theater an der Wien, he performed as Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Guglielmo in Nikolaus Harnoncourt's Da Ponte cycle. In 2019, he debuted as Olivier in a new production of Strauss’s Capriccio at Teatro Real in Madrid. Recently, he has sung leading roles such as Hamlet at the Theater an der Wien, Papageno in Tokyo, Don Giovanni in Hamburg and Nancy, Count Almaviva in Nantes, and Eugene Onegin with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon. Andrè Schuen has been well-known at the Salzburg Festival since 2010, when he participated in the Young Singers Project and various productions conducted by Simon Rattle and Riccardo Muti; he has since become a frequent and welcomed guest there.
Together with pianist Daniel Heide, Schuen has performed at venues including London’s Wigmore Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Schubertiade, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, the Pierre Boulez Saal, the Heidelberger Frühling, and the Tanglewood Festival. Schuen has received international acclaim alongside Daniel Heide for their CD Wanderer, featuring songs by Schubert.
