Aigul Akhmetshina

The young mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina has been captivating international audiences for several years, particularly in the role of Carmen. She studied at the Ufa State Institute of Arts in Russia and participated in the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House in London. Among her accolades is the Grand Prix at the International Hans Gábor Belvedere Singing Competition. In the 2024/25 season, she will make her stage debuts as Carmen at the Vienna State Opera and as Adalgisa (Norma) at the Theater an der Wien. She will also return as Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) to the Teatro Real Madrid, as Carmen to the Royal Opera House and Teatro San Carlo in Naples, as Charlotte (Werther) to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and as Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at both the Metropolitan Opera and the Paris Opera.

Future engagements include her debuts at the Zurich Opera House and the Berlin State Opera, as well as returns to the Bavarian State Opera and the Royal Opera House in London in roles such as Isabella (L’italiana in Algeri), Dalila (Samson et Dalila), and Maffio Orsini (Lucrezia Borgia). She has enjoyed significant success in roles such as Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at the Salzburg Festival, Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bavarian State Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, and Arena di Verona, Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) at Teatro di San Carlo and Dutch National Opera, Charlotte and Rosina at the Royal Opera House, Maddalena (Rigoletto) at the Met, Olga (Eugene Onegin) at San Francisco Opera, the title role in La Cenerentola at Teatro Real Madrid, Fenena (Nabucco) at Hamburg State Opera, Polina (The Queen of Spades) in Baden-Baden, Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) at New National Theatre Tokyo, and Dulcinée (Don Quichotte) at the Wexford Opera Festival. She is also in demand as a concert singer worldwide.
