Monika Bohinec

The mezzo-soprano Monika Bohinec comes from Slovenia and studied singing at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. She made her operatic debut in 2006 as Clarissa (The Love for Three Oranges,) at the Slovenian State Opera. In the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons she was an ensemble member of the National Theatre Mannheim. Since the 2011/12 season she has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera, where she has sung numerous roles in her field, including Azucena (Il trovatore), Eboli (Don Carlo), Cassandre (Les Troyens), Fricka (Das Rheingold and Die Walküre), Erda (Das Rheingold and Siegfried), Sara (Roberto Devereux), Fenena (Nabucco), Mrs. Quickly (Falstaff), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Knusperhexe (Hänsel and Gretel), Ježibaba and Foreign Princess (Rusalka), Polina (The Queen of Spades), Auntie (Peter Grimes), Gora (Medea) and Maddalena (Rigoletto). Engagements have taken her to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Salzburg Festival, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Teatro Real Madrid and the Frankfurt Opera. She has also performed international roles such as Amneris (Aida), Eboli, Carmen, Principessa di Bouillon (Adriana Levouvreur), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde), Ortrud (Lohengrin),Fricka, Azucena, Ježibaba, Konchakowna (Prince Igor), Marina (Boris Godunow), Laura and Cieca (La Gioconda), Giulietta (Les Contes dˋHoffmann).
