Max Emanuel Cencic

Countertenor MAX EMANUEL CENČIĆ champions the rediscovery and more frequent staging of music from the 18th century. He has been performing on stage for over 35 years and appears at major opera houses worldwide, such as Vienna State Opera, Theater an der Wien, Zurich Opera, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Théatre des Champs-Elysées and La Monnaie in Brussels. He started his vocal training as a member of the Vienna Boys’ Choir and embarked on a solo career as early as 1992, first as a soprano and later, from 2001 onwards, as a countertenor. As Artistic Director of Parnassus Arts Productions he is responsible for the conception, supervision and performance of important works of the Italian Baroque. The French Ministry of Culture has made him a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his artistic achievements. Max Emanuel Cenčić has also begun to make a name for himself internationally as a director. Most recently, he has sung Nerone in Berlin, Orlando in Vienna, Orfeo in Zagreb, Arsamene in Karlsruhe and Ulisse in Salzburg, among others. At Vienna State Opera, he has sung Herold in Reimann’s Medea.
