About the Tanzpodium

Short Summary

Today, the relationship between ballet and music, choreographers and composers is as diverse as the two artistic genres.

Music of all periods, aesthetics, genres and instrumentations is a source of inspiration for dance makers, performed live or played from recordings, as sound collages, soundscapes or remixes. For many decades, however, the creation of original ballet scores has increasingly taken a back seat. The repertoires of ballet companies show this: Dance also needs new music, and large-scale, full-length narrative ballet in particular needs new composers. On the occasion of the premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s The Winter’s Tale, set to a composition by Joby Talbot created especially for this Shakespeare ballet, in the first Tanzpodium of the 2024/26 season we will discuss the topic of New Music for Dance.

The talk will be held in German and English.
