About the matinee
Once a season, the big stage belongs to the next generation of ballet dancers.
As a highlight of dance training at the Vienna State Opera Ballet Academy, students at all levels show what they have been working on over the past few months.
From the repertoire, La Bayadère after Marius Petipa is once again on the program - a masterpiece of Romanticism that offers roles that are as beautiful as they are challenging. With Prisma to music by Philip Glass, Christiana Stefanou presents a world premiere, while the youth company performs Martin Schläpfer's miniature ballet Quartz - a chamber play about closeness and distance, encounters and loneliness that gets under the skin.
