The Magic Flute for children
Two performances that always take place the day after the Opera Ball and have now introduced generations of young visitors to the world of musical theater. Seven thousand children from all over Austria experience a shortened, approximately one-hour performance of Mozart's opera in the festive ballroom, in which the character of Papageno leads the audience through the performance. The atmosphere on this afternoon is unique: the children follow the story of Tamino and Pamina with a curiosity and fascination that perhaps no other performance at the State Opera can match. The enchanted animals are admired a thousand times over, Mozart's music is listened to, the house is filled with children's laughter and spontaneous applause. The audience witnesses how the "Wunder Theater" unfolds its magical power and casts a spell over the young audience. Members of the Vienna State Opera ensemble sing and play, accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, who present their instruments as part of this children's opera.
The Vienna State Opera would like to thank the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research for its support.
